First off, I work at NASA Langley so I'm pretty sure I know where it
is located. I've tried several times to get the errors changed but my
new marker location and address keep getting denied because the
moderators:

say it is unverifiable. The entrance to NASA Langley is actually miles
away from the currently shown location. Here is a link to the Center's
main web page where its GPS coordinates are provided in the left
column about 1/2 way down under "Useful Links":

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley/home/index.html

I also have a link to the Center's web page giving directions from
various main roads in the area along with an aerial photo of the
entrance courtesy of Bing:

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/langley/about/directions.html

The current address listed is for our Shipping and Receiving warehouse
not the main entrance. The main entrance is on Langley Blvd. The
marker location shown is for Marvin Rd (not St). The main gate
entrance is here:

The Badge and Pass office where visitors must check in is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.085742,-76.380062&num=1&t=h&sll=37.086199,-76.380681&sspn=0.000509,0.000818&ie=UTF8&ll=37.08569,-76.380141&spn=0.000509,0.000818&z=20

The Shipping and Receiving warehouse is here (4 S. Marvin St.):
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.091091,-76.375816&num=1&t=h&sll=37.08569,-76.380141&sspn=0.000509,0.000818&ie=UTF8&ll=37.090449,-76.375821&spn=0.002037,0.003272&z=18

My lab is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=37.092572,-76.378906&num=1&t=h&sll=37.090449,-76.375821&sspn=0.002037,0.003272&ie=UTF8&ll=37.092174,-76.379056&spn=0.002037,0.003272&z=18

Anyone with common sense should see that a research facility with 4
major wind tunnels and 3000 employees couldn't be in the middle of a
residential neighborhood.

Hi,
Ok, please start here.  Zoom and pan as necessary.  I'm unclear which features you want mapped or moved, but since we generally meet the minimum common sense threshold, we might be able to get what you want accomplished.

Please find the feature or features you want to move, move it/them to the location you wish.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.  If the features you want mapped aren't on the map, you can add them.

Thanks, Rich. Relocating the marker and correcting the address are the
prime concerns. Unfortunately, there are also many errors in the
street names shown on center and our official address does not have a
building number (since there are over 100 on center). Thus, when I put
the official address in Map Maker, it comes back as invalid. I'm going
to try and find a valid address for our Badge and Pass office and put
that in.

This is a common problem when you first have to coordinate with some administrative function who never had to deal with such issues before.  You may have the best luck taking a print of an overhead view to the office responsible for this (good luck just with that!) and trying to explain the issue.  The first thing would be to have building numbers assigned. Maybe correct the street names at the same time.  I'm guessing the fire department, at least, knows which buildings are which.

Let us know how you fare and if we can help.

I submitted a GIF of the Center's street map using the 'Report a
problem' link from the location page for NASA Langley. Maybe that will
be reviewed properly and they can get some of the errors corrected. We
have our own fire station on Center affiliated with the City of
Hampton. Building maps and such are no problems (we have an in-house
mapping group for roads, buildings, rooms, utilitiy routings, etc.).
Hmmm..... Maybe they would like to get involved. The only issues might
be how much of that information the people here really want in the
public domain. I'm sure our security office would probably have some
sort of paranoid reaction.

Rich, whats the policy of Google as per the govt. terms when it comes to sensitive research installations?

The offset on maps might be deliberate? what do they do with other govt research labs? CIA office is also mapped in langley but im not sure how accurate the locations are. could be a shit in satellite imagery and that might be deliberate.
