Merge listings

If i want to merge two listings, but one is not my own. Yet it is unverified. This store is both a doctors office but also a location for a eye glasses company. there is a lisiting for the company and also a listing for the OD. The company is verified.  The doctor has not claimed this listing. Because it is the same location all of the information remains the same making this a duplicate listing. In all the discussion forums i researched, it seems i would have to claim his listing to merge but there has to be a simpler way.

If the doctor wishes, he can keep both listings.  "Professionals" are allowed to have their own listing in addition to the office listing, here is the entry in the guidelines.  So a doctor's office with three doctors can have four POIs, one for the office itself and one for each doctor.

Thank you that was helpful. Also there is another situation in which the doctor has retired yet the business remains on google places. It has been reported as permanently closed yet it is still above my listing and still does not say permanently closed.  Ideally it would be merged or deleted entirely. How would this be solved?

With regards to this other situation, is the closed link showing in Maps or just in Map Maker?  It will show in Map Maker in order that it can be marked "Re-opened" if it was incorrectly closed.  The concern would be if it is marked closed and appears in Maps; if it is then please provide us a link to it so we can look and advise.

I know I should know but don't...because I've never seen a Merge Button....(Can I get one?)....is Merge an operation done by GR as request or is Merge the result of flagging on item as a duplicate?    Does Merge create a Union or Intersection of two Merged data pools?

In Map Maker, merging is the result of marking duplicates.

We do sometimes see merged listings from Places; but those are usually screw ups that we send people back there to get fixed.
