Hi everyone! In the Review Edits Request forum, there is a discussion about getting a short URL for various uses, especially when posting links for review requests.

Rich took the initiative to create Issue 913 in the Issue Tracker which requests enhancing the GMM UI by having the system create an automatic short URL when you click on the link button. This is something that would make life easier for everyone, especially for new mappers, and for all those who continually pass along help to teach people how to do this with the current set up.

Issue 913 - have a look and add your star and voice if you support this, please!

Thanks, Rich, for setting up the issue.

@eastwest,
Only Google can use the g.co link - this is their way of guaranteeing that if you see a page with g.co you know it is from Google.

I thought I saw someone use a g.co link for something that was Google Maps related, though they weren't a Google employee. Maybe I saw things, but I thought it was possible.

Actually anyone can shorten the url and use them.

Here is the link from my above post shortened. http://goo.gl/1NqrA

So I'm not quite understanding your post Craig.

Maybe it's the difference between a g.co and goo.gl

Google Maps (not Map Maker) does let ordinary users generate g.co links. Here's the g.co link for Mountain View, CA USA: http://g.co/maps/9mc34

Hey, Jack.
Anyone can use goo.gl as you say - g.co is only for Google websites. Here is a blog post about the two URLs.

Hi mappers,
 we are currently working on the same, and you should be able to see it soon on mapmaker.

Ooh, cool! Thanks Vivek! Just wondering, what would be the format of the URL? g.co/gmm/1234x or something like that, I guess? Would g.co links be generated for the Help articles as well?
