How can you move a label if Move Marker is greyed out in GM?

I would like to move the centers of polygons representing administrative districts so their labels will appear in the correct location. The Move Marker option is greyed out in Google Maps, however, so I have not been able to correct the label placement. Why is the Move Marker option not available and is there any way to get around this? Thank you.

Is the item editable in Map Maker?  It sounds like you might be trying to change policitical boundaries that are locked for editing.

If you edit the feature in Maps you can move center markers for polygons.

The boundaries appear to be editable in Map Maker, though I have no need to edit them, just change the location of their centers so the the labels will appear in the correct position. I see no notice that the boundaries are locked and I can start editing but I haven't tried saving any changes since as you said earlier, the center marker can only be moved in Google Maps. Any ideas? Why does such a simple task seem so complicated?

It would be helpful if you linked to at least one of the items in question in both Map Maker and in Maps.

Here is the link in Map Maker:

http://www.google.com/mapmaker?q=Capas,+Central+Luzon,+Philippines&gw=39&ll=15.332677,120.429039&spn=0.526451,0.547943&z=11&vpid=1334790568904&iwloc=0_0&fid=3717323966938780815:15595565594787058714&t=h&lyt=large_map

And in Google Maps:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Capas,+Philippines&hl=en&sll=15.350768,120.457374&sspn=0.563484,0.637894&oq=cap&t=h&hnear=Capas,+Tarlac,+Central+Luzon,+Philippines&z=12

The label, Capas, should appear about 15km to the east. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've seen this occasionally before; but I don't know why it is such.  I have no idea if items can be locked in Maps but available in Map Maker.  Someone from Google will likely need to answer this one.

Thanks, Flash. Will someone from Google answer here or is there somewhere else I should post the question? Thanks!

They will likely answer here; but it can take a while.  I can't make promises for them.

Can someone from Google PLEASE answer my question? It is frustrating to see such glaring errors in label placement and not be able to do anything about it. Thank you.

We just received more information about this in the past two days.  You are not supposed to be able to move them in Maps, when you can it is an error, related to the fact that polygons do not display in Maps and thus appear as points instead.  If approved the moves actually cause issues.  So this one is displaying correctly by having the move feature disabled.

Thanks, Flash. So does that mean there is NO way to move polygon labels? That would be pretty hard to believe!

Not by ourselves. We can still notify Google to help do it for us, even without Report a problem, like the Feedback link in Map Maker and forum posts like this in both the Maps and Map Maker communities. Hopefully, someone from Google will browse through this forum and see that screenshot of yours.

Hi all,

@byoung - Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

I am afraid, there’s no workaround here to have those instant fixes. Therefore, I’d request you to report this using Feedback option (click on the right-hand side vertical tab on Map Maker interface), as suggested by Geoff, to get this fixed.

@Gregg and Geoff - Thanks for your valuable inputs.

Hi Rahim,

I would like to adjust position of few labels of odd polygon names for which GMM centered them automatically.
Occasionally I saw changes where center being adjusted but I can not figure out how to adjust position of label in GMM.

Thanks

You have to move the marker while in Maps, not GMM.
