Without a Bus Stop category it appears that most people are using the category Bus Station for a stop. I know there was a Bus Stop category but it did not work and was removed, and there is an Issue 1066 added for this.

Who knows if or when a working Bus Stop category will be added; but until then what is the best way of adding bus stops?
1) Add an Establish / Point of Interest and then set the additional category to Bus Stop so that it is categorized correctly... but there is no icon and no one will see it. Or
2) Incorrectly categorize it as a Bus Station with a Bus Stop label so that an Icon is shown on the map.

I would rather use transit stop from additional category list of bus station, meanwhile.

Using the main category Bus Station (or Transit Station) does not allow for an additional category. And I would assume that an Establishment / Point of Interest with an additional category Transit Stop will be the same as using Bus Stop as the additional category; no icon for it to appear on the map. Am I correct or am I missing something?   Does the use of the main category Transit Station automatic change its category (like so many others) to Transit Stop?

    Hi zxrayz and Jabran,

As we currently do not have a separate category for bus stops, it would be best if we map these features under the category 'Bus Station' for now.

    Thanks,
    Raza

Bus Stop needed urgently as no substitute could be added for it. Bus station is not a replacement. hence I shall not map bus stops in my area till the category is added.

Use transit stop for such a category.

problem is there is no Transit Stop category either, only Transit Station.

The category Bus Stop and Transit Stop are available as an additional categories, BUT additional categories can NOT be added to Transit Station or Bus Station.

Google FIX THE PROGRAM.

Hi guys,

We are in the process of rationalizing the categories on Map Maker and the "Bus stop" category has been added to the list of categories here.
You can add your comments here and also tell us more about other categories that you would like to see resurrected. :)

Thanks,
Raza

Hi, Raza,

Any update about Bus Stop resurrection?

In a big city usually a few Bus Stations are present (both Intercity and internal), in a small - usually one Intercity Bus Station only... But without a Bus Stop category, even in a small town there are hundreds of bus stations now! Any decision on this yet? I'm wanting to map the bus stops in my city.

Also, on a somewhat related side-note, is Google going away from Map Maker having power over this and just using the Transit Partners?  http://maps.google.com/help/maps/transit/partners/

I contacted my local transit authority and identified myself as a RER for the region and asked about adding the bus data in Fort St. John, they said that they might contact me in the future about adding bus information in my area... which could mean years... right now they're working on the larger systems like Vancouver, BC.

Here is the reply to my inquiry:

Hi Terry,

I am the Senior Manager for your transit system and I really appreciate your insight. We at BCT recognize the importance of incorporating technology into our systems to make them more user-friendly. We take great pride in our operations and always strive to improve the customer's experience. It would be great if all of our systems had their bus stops and routes incorporated into Google Maps. The transit function is really impressive and we are in the process of introducing it into a few of our larger systems. There is a long term strategic plan to look at the feasibility of doing the same throughout the province, we just aren't there yet.

I will keep your email and I appreciate your offer of assistance. Perhaps if we get to a point where we are looking at having the city of Fort St John mapped, we could solicit your input at that point to help us do it properly.

Thank you for taking the time to write us and please keep using the bus!

Take care,

Todd

Terry, don't forget that Vancouver's transit system is now on it's own, and BCT covers the rest of the province.  So they might be referring to Abbotsford, Kelowna, Kamloops, etc.

Ahh, right Vancouver is Translink. I did forget that.

I've seen some bus stops in Langley done by them, but none in Abbotsford. Hopefully it will spread more this year.

Langley is part of the Greater Vancouver, and thus part of Translink.  The Langley/Abbotsford border is where both the GVRD and Translink end.  Thank goodness too, with their extra gas tax!
