Hello,

I am wondering, apart from the list posted here:

http://maps.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=157002

Is there any way I can get a comprehensive list of the categories? Specially in other languages like Spanish and French? This is mainly to check how they are translated from English to those languages...

Also, is there a list available somewhere of "additional categories"? For some reason the drop down menu is no longer working for me. I tend to use the software interface ("Display language") in English and the "Primary language in which data is entered" in Spanish but I tried reverting to all in Spanish or to all in English, but still that drop down menu of the additional categories does not work. I thought that might have been a modification somewhere but then I checked with other mappers and they do get additional categories... so is something wrong with my profile?

Thanks!

Cheers Wayne!

Now the ones taken from the javascript files will need serious
parsing!

Regarding the first two links, I'm curious, where did you get the
compilation from?
Some do not match:

Locality Localité Estación de metro
School District scolaire Mar

Sorry about that. IThey must have misaligned when I put the data into
spreadsheets. The data came from the javascript files I linked to.

Ignore the first link. I've updated the Google Docs to reflect the
correct translations.

Hi Redwood,
Are you still facing the issue regarding additional categories? If so, can you please post some screen-shots of this situation. Also, some details like your OS & browser(version) would be helpful.

Thanks,
Dushyant

Hello Dushyant!

Yes, still does not work for me.

These screenshots are from a Win XP Pro SP3 with:
FireFox 3.6.8
Opera 6.1
Safari 5.0
Chrome 5.0.375.127
IE 8.0.6001.18702

As you can see in the screenshots, I am trying to create an Amusement Park and when I get to the additional categories (that I read about in the forum, somebody wanted to add a water park) the dropdown menu just does not work. I can type there though.
Interestingly enough, Opera hangs trying to use GMM in Win, in several versions of Ubuntu (8.04, 9.04,10.04) that I have, it just works fine but still no additional categories.
I have also tried Chromium in Ubuntu 10.04 and it works fine but no joy with additional categories either...

Tell me if you need anything else.

Hi Everyone,
@Redwood- Thanks for the comprehensive set of screen-shots. We are currently investigating the issue. As a workaround, you can set the 'Display Language' in Settings to 'English' instead of 'English(UK)' (or to 'Spanish' instead of 'Spanish(Latin America)'). Please do let me know if this workaround works for you.

Thanks,
Dushyant

Additional Categories working with English settings "display language" (not English UK).

Hi Dushyant!

It also worked for "Spanish" instead of "Latin American and Caribbean" which is good, but on the other hand a bit annoying...
I hope it gets fixed in the near future, because the terms we use on this continent are quite different from what Spaniards use LOL!
The same as American English is different from UK English (although we are not as silly as to change the spelling... ROFL!)
