a major road in my area (Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL) lying west of the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/I-94) is shown as a divided road with traffic separated into two separate one-way routes.  There is no such median, and I would like to correct it so that it is accurately represented like other streets in the area.

Can anyone suggest how i do this?   map

You're on the right path. Now, you'll have to delete one of the sides of the road and align the remaining side.

I'm afraid I could not find the method to delete one of the sides of the road.  Can you advise?

Getting the edit through moderation may be your biggest problem.
I've got a number of streets here showing as divided (two one lane) roads with nifty little plazas in the intersections that don't exist.   It's visible in satellite and  street view that they aren't there but I still can't get rid of them. These are major and minor arteries that ate six and eight lanes.  They do have  six inch by 18 inch by three feet long plantings for a couple of blocks.  I finally just left those.
Click on a POI close to your road ( on the side you want to keep), select find near this, and do the edit corrections, do the same for the other side and delete.  With my method you might have to do it segment by segment,

                                                                       Good luck,
                                                                           Mara

Yes, as Mara said, you'll have to delete the segments individually.

I forgot to add that if you skip the intersections (if any) the segments will be approved more quickly (you can leapfrog them).  Then go back and do the intersections as separate edit.

thanks for your advice - however, I'm not sure how to 'skip the intersections".   I select a section, and it seems to default to include the intersections.  Then, when I try to delete another section, it tells me that the previous change is still subject to review...

Try going over a couple of blocks. Use the select a line sement box in the upper corner of your screen an place the A and B markers between intersections and then edit.  you'll still have to skip blocks between edits. I think I deleted first and then changed the other lane.

You don't have to.  They appear (as little markers) at the beginning and end of your line. You can move them for greater accuracy.

Those A's and B's should be your own new markers. Best to make smaller segments (all between intersections).  .  Wait a couple of days and come back to try again.  Think of Google as a state agency...They'll get bored before you do.
The map is full of bugs that do get fixed periodically.  You might try downloading Mapmaker again.  It could just be your copy. It took me three weeks and several downloads (and an update) to get a copy without broken links..

    Hi brnnrks,

I suggest deleting individual road segments will help you fix these errors. If your edits are pending and require a review, you can can post them in Review edits request forum for speedy moderation http://goo.gl/QAX8y

You can then continue fixing the alignment of the road. You can find more information about editing roads on http://goo.gl/nnOUB

    Cheers,

Brnnrks,
Happy to see the data perfect now as you wished for on the maps.

Coming to the issue of selecting the segment, Mara did guide you however now while selecting the roads using 'Select a segment' option the two markers A and B no more come up i guess. Its now a different system.
When you use select a segment option, the roads in view all glow with a different colour, then when you hover your mouse over any road, that gets highlighted and you can click on the road to select that road, similarly
for n number of roads. Road sections which ever you want to be invovled and edited at once can thus be selected just by clicking on them. Some one please correct me if i am misguiding.

Thanks,
~Reddy.

Doesn't work in South Carolina,First, nothing glows on hover, and if I typed into  'find' on Mapmaker I now just get a big blue outline box with a marker in the general area, although the road itself is visible on the map
I just tried a dinky edit of a small portion of a road (Blossom Street (s-91) that isn't even connected with the rest of it..  'A' and 'B's are there but, he's right, they won,t move.  Mapmaker Revert (again) left out a couple of blocks..  I don't want to critique his edit, I just want to add the missing blocks but I can't.
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&gw=26&qmo=re&ll=33.993789,-80.983862&spn=0.002259,0.004195&z=18&iwloc=0_0
I have no idea how to deal with this system much less explain it.
Back to the main issue, Blossom Street, a very old long road with one of the three 'not-bridges' into the city, starts back up half a mile away.  It has three blocks with planter dividers (18 inches wide) the university put up.  It's never been a one lane each way carriage way but that's what shoes on the map.  It's six lanes put turn lanes by the time it gets to the 'not-bridge'. What a mess at the intersections.
 shttp://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&q=Blossom+Street&gw=30&ll=33.996675,-81.016188&spn=0.036149,0.06712&z=14&vpid=1311132724192
but
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&q=Blossom+Street&gw=30&ll=33.989191,-81.042949&spn=0.000533,0.001049&z=20&vpid=1311132724192&t=h
It isn't 176, it/s a connector and Wiiliams Street passes underneath it (very old satellite view)
This may explain why big interstate trucking (forbidden in this area) is appearing trying to turn from Harden St. into Blossom St, (painted left turn divider).  I watched cars in the left turn lane on Blossom back up nearly to the next intersection yo let the truck make his turn.
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=10&hl=en&ll=33.997609,-81.015294&spn=0.000565,0.001049&z=20&vpid=1311134106732
That's a real mess.  Since the marker for Blossom Street is well up on South Harden it took forever to get this link but I see that I did convince Mapmaker that Blossom doesn't have a divider here  I don't know what it looks like in Maps.
Any suggestions for working with this system? Brnnrks may be right.

                                                                                  Thanks Reddy for listening,

I am having a similar problem in this location: http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=39&fid=0x89b387ef134f95f5:0x51288037c888fba5

Based on the information in this thread, Greenbrier Dr should not have two one-way segments, but instead one that supports two-way traffic. I need some help to get this done, as it will take forever to do without people helping approve it.

@ Reddy Bk,  The only way to add/extend an existing road here is still with the browse tool and 'find near this'. I then get a box on the map that instruction me to fill in road name, in this case Blossom Street (s-91), 'save and continue to add'. Fine until I get to the end of this rather short segment where it wants me to continue to add no matter what I do...I gave up.
My other option, 'edit entire road' did work except that this isolated section has now been added to the rest of long Blossom Street with the it's incorrect attributes for the rest and that irritating marker in a yard on Harden Street.

@ Willy, I see what you mean and that road only has painted dividers.  I don't know what happens in Virginia, but here the county is apt to sneak in in the middle of the night, paint over the divider, and add two new lanes and/or turn lanes for a surprise for commuters the next
 morning.

Dear Rahim, and Reddy BK,
Okay,  now I can't edit my own pending edit nor can I undo it; at least it's on my screen. What is the reason for this?http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&fll=33.997121,-81.008871&fr=0.000712,0.000858&mpp=1.980288&gw=39&ll=33.999949,-81.006982&spn=0.009446,0.016737&z=16&iwloc=0_0&fid=9869843873950705529:12513435383281389923 disappeared when I undid my edit of the below edit.
I've had to undo my own edit of Blossom Street (s-91) http://dbw.scdot.org/streetfinder/ (an isolated portion of this street with starting and ending intersections at Bloomwood Road and Rosewood Drive) because to add it's missing segment I must select edit entire road.  This adds the the missing block but changes the attributes of all of Blossom Street (a very long road with very different attributes).
I thought that by using the South Carolina Department of Traffic (SCDOT) designations, I could straighten out the entire very long road...wrong again.
How can this distressing problem be resolved, especially since South Carolina has not received or benefited from the Google upgrades?

I'm not sure what's going on, but it's a quite a mess following the "fix" to my divided street issue. And it's no better in the vanilla, public Google Maps view. Now the street meanders all over the place. It appears as though someone started fixing it and gave up. I would fix it but have no idea how, since when you 'hover' it only shows one lane of street.

Thanks I Map,
The Southeast US did not receive all the updates that that everyone else did.  That's why you're seeing all the posting from Virginia on down.  We did get a few, now we have the worst of both. Segment select is pretty much all I've been using and that's become a merry-go-round.  There' a point where I don't want to continue and save.  I just want to save.
The balloons are on the Poppit game on new tab (at least here)  The music is good on Entanglement but I'm about as good at that as I am at editing roads here.
Good grief!, I forgot to move my car.  Since Google has moved the building entrance to the parking lot, maybe I won't have so far to walk.

Nice to see this interactive discussion :-)

@Mara - The link given is of the road which has now been deleted and that is the reason why you are seeing that message.

@Willy - I see that the edit made has been published now.
Please feel free to post back for any other concern :)

Thank you Abhishek,
Thank you, thank you.   Blossom Street (and Harden Street) have become the bain of my existence.  Every time I think that I've got got them mostly straightened out they'll change again.  I went over to that isolated segment of Blossom to calm down and it went south on me too.
Columbia is a comparatively old city and bits and pieces of it have been tacked on, chopped off, or moved around  over the last 200  years. Blossom Street is one of many like it in the older sections of the city.
I'm afraid that my frustration showed in my post.  Next time that this happens I'll take a deep breathe and think before I type.

I have noticed that some reviewer/moderator seems to think that a road is divided just because the yellow lines open up to widen the road. I am trying to let them know that this is inaccurate, and have been deleting it when I see it.

The two examples that I have been fighting here recently are here and here. I do not know why anyone would think this is a divided road, the yellow lines do not constitute a physical barrier.

The problem I am having with this is that I make the deletions, and the edits get approved but then are undone not even a minute after. I have made a good as an explanation as possible when deleting segments, but this keeps happening. I do not like having to delete these segments over and over.

Is there any way the current rendering of my "divided road that isn't a divided road" might be rendered more appropriately as shown here:

http://www.google.com/mapmaker?ll=41.953311,-87.745383&spn=0.002489,0.004302&z=18&gw=11&category=Road&ctype=289&qmo=pend&lyt=large_map&hyaw=115.27331027461605

Much of the rest was fixed (thank you!), but even after deleting the phantom double streets, the road is still depicted as meandering back and forth.

Here are specific links to edits I have made to try and solve problems with roads that are mapped as being divided but the satellite imagery clearly indicates they are not.

I am doing the best I can to explain the situation to the moderators/reviewers, but they are being stubborn and insisting that what is currently drawn in is correct. I am hoping that I can get these changes pushed through and not have them reverted right after they are made.

Somehow that must have happened, and I am not sure how. It is getting very frustrating with these intersections, as the reviewers insist on relying upon seriously outdated resources, and I am trying to provide them with the best local knowledge possible.
