I am trying to create a state map (CA) that allows me to import zip codes and results in a scattergram type map that I can save, update, edit. etc.  It this the best tool for such a task?

Map Maker is for making the base maps which are visible through Google Maps and Google Earth. In your situation Google My Maps may be a better option.

Very informative...I'm still looking for the ability to import a file of hundreds of zip codes and don't see that functionality here...Has anyone done that before?

Hi Tash,

As far as I know Map Maker doesn't currently offer any way to interact with the map or its underlying data other than through the graphical interface. That is to say that there is no way to import or export data in tabular format, so from the limited description that you've given us, I would be at a loss on how to accomplish what you're trying to do with Map Maker. The only Google product that rings a bell for what you're describing is the maps component of the Google Charts API (formerly Visualizations), which allows you to use a Google Docs spreadsheet as a datasource and display regional charts for that data.

Thanks Andres, I'll check this out. I have an excel file of hundreds of clients in CA and am wanting to create a map by which I can see the density of that population in various parts of the state.
