Thanks in advance to anyone reading this.

I've done consider able editing in Mapmaker and can't change the way Google Maps gives directions to the "Genesee Rowing Club". It's located near an interstate overpass (I-390), but its address is "1 Hawthorne Dr. Rochester, NY 14623". All directions take you to the overhead I-390 overpass instead of (the slightly further away) Hawthorne Drive. I've been trying for MONTHS. Thanks again.

Example directions: http://g.co/maps/3e49c

YIKES. Yes, that is wrong. That's weird because the link worked for me...

It is to the Google Places page. Thanks!

Okay, interesting.  With that Google Places I end up at, apparently, the wrong place.

I see, looking at it on GMM I finally understand. You are referring to this feature:
( duplicate, improperly formatted address POI: http://www.google.com/mapmaker?gw=39&fid=0x89d14b4d361e374f:0xba1eed9cd6233915

Unfortunately, the closest access, at least as far as GMaps routing can tell, seems to be the Interstate instead of this point:

In other words, geographically, the Interstate is the closest point to the "Genesee Rowing Club."

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in...

But here are the options as I understand them.
1. Go to Google Maps, find the feature, and use the "Report a Problem" link to report the issue.
2. Try to correct the issue through edits in GMM. Remove the duplicate Address Marker (POI) that is further from Hawthorne Drive.  Noting that even though the map tile is still showing the "loop" that those roads have actually been deleted (there seems to be an error), so it's probably best to have it close to the actual live road.

I honestly don't know which solution is best because #2 would be fairly immediate (it takes a few days for directions to update, to see if it has worked, in my experience), it may also not work at all.  #1, though leaves you just wondering if and when someone will get around to fixing it (and hoping they understand your report).

In my opinion -- the best option is to delete the duplicate/badly-formatted address POI and adding the ZIP code to the other address marker. Hopefully that will at least get the Address routing correct and then you can tinker with the Rowing Club marker to get it to route properly if it still isn't.

Someone lurking in the forums might have better advice though :)

I've seen this happen to one editor where his directions to the Ramada Suites Bakersfield had his destination right directly on the southbound lanes of the CA-99 freeway (the thing is, he tried to edit the freeway road segments itself at one point, which didn't work out too well). I took a look at it, and because the marker was actually on the right place but the directions were using the freeway instead of getting off at the California Avenue ramp, had that freeway edit undone and then used Report a Problem in Maps to sort this out instead of trying to edit via Map Maker.

The marker location is now a little inconsistent by about two hundred feet between Maps and Map Maker, but the directions now send you to the hotel itself via Real Road and the access road, not the freeway. This is how it is now in Map Maker:  http://goo.gl/78b0F and in Maps: http://g.co/maps/jjg2c

So yeah, I would suggest using Report a Problem in Maps to get this rectified quickly.

It appears it might be adding it to the incorrect spot because the Address Plot is not complete.  So it is placing it at the nearest road/intersection. I added some information. We'll see what happens.

Never mind!  forget that!

One thing that also might be worthwhile is to recreate the underpass portion of Hawthorne Drive.  That would put Hawthorne Drive closer to the Address Point than the Interstate.

(Note the "Loop" portion on the map-tile is a ghost-feature and does not exist in GMM, it appears to have been deleted).

Since, I can't really see underneath the underpass it'd be more appropriate for someone with local knowledge to make the addition. :)

I just did a test of this in Google Maps. There seems to be running into a restriction on one of the roads - Hawthorn Drive. It appears because it was set to priority terminal at one point, it could be causing a glitch with the directions.  This could take up a while for the directions in Google Maps to update though..

Hi all,

Thanks for reporting this. We totally understand where you’re coming from.

Unfortunately, these directions issues can't be corrected in Map Maker at this time :-( Please check out the ‘Feature Enhancement’ request already raised and don’t forget to vote for it!

However, if a place or address is in the correct location but the directions are wrong, instead of trying to fix it in Map Maker, please report it using ‘Report a problem’ so that the issue can be corrected. (Thanks Jet! I feel it would be better to choose option 1 of what you gave)

Please note that some of the ‘fixed directions’ may take time to appear live on Map Maker. We greatly appreciate your patience on this.

Regards,
Chaitanya Sri
