I have been trying to get my business listing on Google maps since a long time but my Verified Business Listing isn't showing up on Google Maps while the duplicate entries show up instead. One more issue is that I had edited the Verified Business's shape in Google Map maker to include the location's boundaries, which hasn't come on the map since the last 6 months.

Verified business listing: http://local.google.co.in/maps/place?hl=en&georestrict=input_srcid:039fc181f064d75d

Duplicate Listing: http://g.co/maps/nbqp7

Can anybody delete/merge the duplicate listing with the Verified Listing? And why isn't the verified listing's boundary shape being updated to Google Maps (I added the boundaries long time back, I think more than 4-5 months ago). Also, the Verified listing was accidentally market as Closed some time ago (4 months ago) is it the reason the verified listing is not showing up?

If you look at the mapping entries on Google Mapmaker in that same area, there are multiple duplicates of the same business. To solve the confusion would it be a better idea of deleting all the entries of the business there, including my verified listing, and then start again?

Thank You.

Based on my experience claiming/ verifying over 600+ business listings w/ Google Places/ Maps, I would tell you the following:

1. Your verified business listing is showing up in Google Maps search results & it is check-marked as an "Owner-Verified Listing" - However, there are duplicate entries.

2. The phone number of the duplicate entry listed: +91 33 2212 0542 ‎is not the same as yours.  I would suggest doing either of the following Options:

Option1:
Click on the "Business Owner?" link in the upper left hand corner and select option 1 of the 3 listed below: "Edit My Business Information".   You will then want to update all of the required form fields, in addition to anything extra (like your business logo image) to match the info EXACTLY that is already entered in your Verified Business Listing. Make sure to correct the phone number too!  Then hit Submit at bottom and request to verify listing via phone call, then answer the call at the number you listed because it will ring w/in 5 min. Write down the pin# the call gives you and go into your Google places account and enter in Pin# in listing you just claimed to verify it.

Add, Edit, or Suspend Listing

To proceed, please choose an option below. (Each option will require validation.*)

  Choose one.

Edit my business information.
You may update your business name, contact information, payment types, hours and categories.

Suspend this listing.
You may return to Google Places and re-activate your listing at any time.

This isn't my listing.
If the information to the right isn't yours, you may add your business as a new listing now.

Option2:

Search for all the duplicates/ additional listings that show up for your business in Google Maps and open them up.  Then click “Edit this Place” link as opposed to – “Business Owner?” in upper right hand corner and the following should be self explanatory as far as your next step (look for this on bottom right of page):

Have a problem that can't be edited?

  • Is this place closed?
  • Is there incorrect information but you don't know enough to correct it?
  • For these or other reasons, report a problem.

As far as you general concern regarding starting over... It all goes back to the complexion, # of edits, revisions, moving around map boundaries, etc. that took place in the very initial claiming of your business listing.  If it was a messy job with lot's of attempts, back arrows, etc. Google picks up on that and senses it's abusive in nature... hence it is sometimes best to start w/ a clean slate:)

Hope this helps!

Best,
Britt B.

Hi Britt,

Thanks a ton for the advice. I will be claiming almost all the duplicate listing by next week and making them "Suspend this listing" so that Google hopefully deletes them. I'll wait for a couple of months to see whether my verified listing gets the boundary marking updated or not. If not, then I'll be deleting that too, and will start again!

Thanks once again!

Cheers! :)
