Hi

Is it allowed to add crosswalks to maps?

If the road attributes are added correctly to the segments in question, a separate 'crosswalk' would not be necessary. If you need some more advice on this please provide a link to the area in question and we'll provide you with some more information.

Thank you!

To add to what karlcr9911 wrote, it isn't necessary to add a separate crosswalk. However, there are cases in which a pedestrian path or a bike trail intersects a road, resulting in a crosswalk, and then continues on the other side. In that case it would be appropriate to a have a trail segment over the crosswalk.

Thanks for your replies.

Maybe I didn't describe it clearly. This link shows the situation better.
It is a place where pedestrians are allowed to go from one side to another side of the road (I'm not sure if you call it crosswalk or not). You can see another examples around this link too which are not overpasses.

I deleted one of them because I thought if it's true then we should add many crosswalks for every road but according to what Funkytoad said it seems that I was wrong about it.

At one point in time, there was a dedicated segment usage for crosswalks, mentioned here: https://groups.google.com/d/topic/google-mapmaker/jyNWYptOwbY/discussion

That usage was subsequently subsumed into the regular Trail / Path usage.

Anyways, here's one of those dedicated signalized pedestrian crossings: http://goo.gl/KHqu0  Perfectly fine example.

Off topic, but in Amir's example, the top left point of that intersection needs to be redrawn; I see two disconnected intersection points where there should be one, between the southbound and westbound roads.

After playing around with Directions a bit, I realize it doesn't matter because Google Maps doesn't really differentiate between which side of the street you are. Which sort of makes sense, unless it's a divided highway.  So nevermind. :)

It's worse that that. That intersection needs a complete overhaul. Nothing is connected properly. In addition to the problem you noted, the south bound lane just above that intersection isn't connected to itself. The turn segment from south to east doesn't connect. The turn segment from northbound to east bound isn't connected on either end.

These edits belong to hossein fotoohi.

Somehow I fought the urge to fix it all myself... :)

And the intersection just to the south of that has similar problems...and the one to the west....and the one to the east....

Wow...I'm glad that's not my mess to clean up. Good luck Amir! :)

Yes, there are too many problems here and the most important is wrong sub locality which causes every edit encounter an incorrect address error and need an approval.

I added  pedestrian crossing to the north of crossroad and will add it to the east too as soon as pending edits approved.

Regards.

It could matter.  (Pedestrian) directions could differ if a particular segment had a crossing and others didn't.  Some mid-block crossings might be preferred, as is the case with a dedicated pedestrian signal, or they might be exclusive if there's a divider on other parts of the road.
