Map Makers,

We've just released some new features that we're very excited about
and I wanted to share this news with all of you. The team is working
hard to allow more mappers to use the product and make everybody's
contributions more useful. So fresh from the oven...
- API Support! this was one of the most requested features by all of
you, the map maker tiles are now available in both the JS and static
Google maps API. You can embed the tiles on your blogs and website and
see them updated on a daily basis. see here
https://sites.google.com/site/mapmakeruserhelp/api-and-staticmaps for
easy instructions how to do that
- Extended language support
1. You can type feature names in every language supported by your
keyboard, here's how http://sites.google.com/site/mapmakeruserhelp/using-features#TOC-Adding-a-Second-Name-to-a-Feature
, this will show on the map maker tiles, here's an example
http://www.google.com/mapmaker?hl=en&q=&gw=30&ll=31.487894,74.410615&spn=0.017749,0.027895&z=15&ctype=0
2. The interface is now available in 27 languages
https://sites.google.com/site/mapmakeruserhelp/languages-available .
3. (my favorite new feature) - We got many requests from you to have
the interface available in many more languages, and since we can't do
them all (we even got requests for Klingon...) we made it possible for
all of you to translate the interface to your language. All you have
to do is sign up to Google in your language, choose the language you
want and translate http://www.google.com/transconsole . I hope that
together we can translate to the languages of all 164 countries we've
launched so far

We just announced those features on our latlong blog:
http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2009/02/map-making-in-your-language-on-your.html
and our developer blog: http://googlegeodevelopers.blogspot.com/2009/02/map-maker-for-developers.html
as well

That's all for now. Please spread the message to friends and fellow
local mappers - the map maker product continue to evolve so all of us
can map our world. As always - let us know what you think, we're
listening very carefully. I hope you felt over the last couple of
weeks the increased presence of the development team on the forums,
we'll try and respond to all of your questions and feedback (while
we're not coding :).

Lior, on behalf of the map maker team.

Cool!

Okay how about a layer in Google Earth as well which automatically
resorts to the default imagery as being used in Mapmaker (using
History feature; given the alignment issues)?

That would make this thinggi more accessible ...just like the API
does?

Hi,

Any way we can make Google Map Maker data appear in Google Maps for
Mobile?

Regards,
Omar

Hi Lior,
Thank you for sharing the info. Regarding to the interface
translation, I could not found the console to re-translate the GMM
interface to Vietnamese. The existing GMM interface in Vietnamese
contains several poor translation, and I would like to offer the help.
One specific example is the tab "Moderate" is translated as "Vừa
phải", where "moderate" was translated poorly as an adjective (similar
to "mild"), while the correct translation should be "Điều tiết" (verb)
(Moderator - Người điều tiết).
By the way, the GMM Help is also not available in Vietnamese, thus
limits users from understanding and mastering the tools due to
language barrier.
Do you have any idea how to improve the translation?
Best regards,
Bach
