Is there any way to display the compass rose on map, or even better to move it around the map? This would be esp. helpful in print-outs. I can find no mention of it in the help menus.

This doesn't really answer your question, but north is always up on Maps. You can't rotate the map unless you're in birds-eye-view imagery, then the rotation indicator is in the upper left of the map window. Printing from there only prints you a regular map and you're back to north = up.

I'm trying to be able to display the compass rose in a screen or print-out of a map, so relative directions to a particular landmark can be shown/measured. So far, it doesn't appear possible to do that. --sb

You could draw in your own compass rose on the printout using a ruler and a protractor.

Google Maps doesn't really show a compass rose. The closest things to a compass rose is the navigation wheel at the top-left.

Are you sure you are using the right tool?
Perhaps you should be using regular Google Maps instead of Google Map Maker..
Map Maker is for creating maps. If you want to get and print out directions, regular Google Maps is a better tool to use.
