What is the specific difference between the categories ‘School’ and ‘School District’.

Thanks.

In my area, a school is a single building, whereas a school district is approximately the size of a municipality or county, but does not necessarily exactly follow those political borders.  It is the area in which all the schools are administered together by a single school board.

A school district, school board or board of education is a local government body responsible for operating one or more schools. In Canada, the term school board is more common. In the United States, school board or board of education may refer specifically to the elected representatives in overall charge of the school district, or it may refer to the school district as a whole. In the United States, the word District alone sometimes refers to a government body with some but not all of the responsibilities of a municipality. For example, a water and sewer district might operate the water and wastewater systems in part of a municipality or in one or more municipalities.

So an administrative building for a school district would be in the category School District, while an individual school would be in the category School, or a more specific category, such as High School.

Today I cam across someone chosen "School District" as a category for District administration head office.
An Flash mentioned, seems that "School District" is also sort of "School" with larger size?

Hi Banlung,

I'm sorry if my explanation was confusing, I will try to explain it from another approach.

A district is an area of land, usually quite large (the size of a city or larger).  Districts usually administer something and have a governing body.

A school district is an area within which all the schools are administered by one governing body.  That governing body is usually called a school board.

It would be acceptable to mark the office from which the district is administered with School District as the category.  Google does not encourage us to map out the boundaries of the entire district.  That building, though, would not be a school; it would be an office that manages many schools.
