Hi!

I have mapped since October 2011, but my country (Sverige/Sweden) is not available. It doesn't need it anyway, because we have an excellent "official" map of the whole country - Eniro.
Well, my philosophy is that mapping is crucial in the third world, where local surveys isn't good enough. I, on the other hand have only been around the new capital of Burma, called Naypyitaw. It is a really fascinating city, but I couldn't find any maps. It is generally easier and more funny to "map" areas which interest you in a way or another, for me it is! So, Naypyitaw is my "hometown", for now anyway. When I'm ready I'll move to perhaps Africa!

However, let me get to the point! Nearly 10K edits since first draw of a line, I've been stuck in that area since, and I'm really the one that have "built up" that map! My goal is to make it one of the most detailed and accurate mapped area, with no help from pre- existing maps found for example in Japan, USA, or all other countries where GMM is disabled. But, it ain't easy. Since I'm the only one who continuosly contributing almost everyday, there isnt many fellow mappers to help and join me to reach that goal. It would be alot easier if it would be more contributors, with maybe a whole new section in this community, namely "Myanmar". Sorry my english suck, but whatever right! :D

The first thing I really would appreciate is if anyone could approve my large number of pending edits. Another obstacle is the administrative levels. I'm really confused with category "City/Village/Town" - is it the build up area (that may take up several countys or even be splitted by two or more states/provinces (eg New York)? Or is it the municipality, "city limits" which may take up smaller towns nearby?

Thats all I've got to say! Thanks and have a nice one!

Hi,
Yes, I've noticed your work in Myanmar.  Nice work.  Do you read/write Burmese?  What are you using for source material?  Are you also on Panoramio?

It takes a while for things to be approved. Not many reviewers look at this area and more complex edits, sometimes without supporting details, typically don't get reviewed.

It probably wouldn't do any good to have a separate subforum for Myanmar, there just aren't that many mappers in South East Asia, except for Vietnam.

The administrative levels in SEAsia above the level of the smallest village are sometimes difficult to correlate to the actual civil divisions.

You have the following:
  • city/village/town - suitable for everything from the smallest named village to the largest city
  • locality - typically within a city, perhaps townships
  • sub-locality/neighborhood  - within localities
also, there's a category of Built-Up Area for areas not in the city limits proper, but clearly with structures.

A couple of points, from scanning the area of Nay Pyi Taw. I don't know if these are your features or someone else's:
  • don't name villages as "New Village" or "Village."  It's GMM practice to leave them unmapped without a name.
  • Don't put names in parenthesis "()"
  • It's only somewhat useful to map buildings in densely built up areas if they don't have names for search
Last, there's a lot of Burma unmapped or that could use refinement, especially roads.
Thanks for your work in SEAsia.

Hi, no unfortunately I don't. I'm Swedish, and I've in fact never been in Asia, so the reason I mapping that specific area is just because the interest. The burmese names I found on Wikipedia, and other sources. Panoramio has very good photos of NPT, but no, it's not me! :)

There is a few maps I use as source of names, and places. New satellite imagery from GeoEye with roads that don't exist on Google Maps I also use as an "overlay" to correctly draw them on GMM.
Here is a list of all the maps:

So you speak burmese? Is it you who have applied the burmese names of the roads, and some villages in the area? If you wish you could help me translate I would be very happy!

Which forum do you use when mapping Myanmar? As rjhintz said, there is not many mappers in that area, but somewhere we need to discuss, right?

Have a nice one!
