Kia ora whanau, my sincere apologies for the delay in getting in touch
with you all - have been inundated with mahi over that last several
weeks.

But hey we've got some great news. After the article in the NZ Herald
we were contacted by a guy down in Christchurch (no Tainui ia) named
Ara Tai Rakena who has been working on the translations for the last
18 months (virtually under the radar) - there was no posting in any of
the translators groups, so I didn't know it was underway. He's off to
work for MFAT so won't have as much time to dedicate to this huge
project. His effort is incredible and I'm so impressed with the mahi
that has been done.

Before now, and for some strange reason I haven't been able to get
into the editable areas to look at his work, so he emailed me the
links and I am now able to look at over 3000+ words/sentences that
have been translated. The main site is 99.9% complete with 4 messages
left to translate. There are other parts of Google that are in need of
translating (see below) and it's a mammoth job.

Really what we now need to do is get our editors and translators to go
in and check his work for tense, grammar, context, etc.

I'll be emailling each of our translating/editing team members with
info on how to access this area, as it is not accessible. If we could
get this work under way getting Google Maori up and running will be a
reality in the very near future. But again, this is dependent on our
team being able to go through each of the 1,294 messages and check
them.

This is what is complete and left to complete to date:

Google Main Search Site (99.999% complete) - 4 messages to complete
AdWords API static documentation (0% complete) - 26,402 messages to
complete
Gmail Email (60% complete) - 18 messages to complete
Gmail Static UI Content (0% complete) - 996 messages to complete
Gmail UI (0% complete) - 1,679 messages to complete
Groups Beta (3% complete) - 3,501 messages to complete
Main Site Help Pages (10% complete) - 481 messages to complete
Orkut (0% complete) - 5,224 messages to complete
Picasa2 (0% complete) - 2,704 messages to complete
Search History (Personalized Search) (2% complete) - 366 messages to
complete
User Distributed Search (xlb) (65% complete) - 26 messages to complete
Wireless (17% complete) - 148 messages to complete
Wireless Transcoder (0% complete) - 213 messages to complete

So you can see there is a heap left to do, but the main search site is
almost complete, and that is the most important part, once this is
finalised they will upload the site and the main search site will be
available for use.

Kia ora!
