Posted By Effie Seiberg, Associate Product Marketing ManagerHow would your campus look in 3D? For those of you in higher education, we wanted to let you know about an exciting contest we're running that involves Google SketchUp and Google Earth. Teams of students from the U.S. and Canada are competing to create the best 3D model of their respective college campuses and geo-reference them in Google Earth. The winners, as judged by a panel of architecture and design experts, will be sent on an all-expense paid trip to Google headquarters in Mountain View, California. For more information on how your students can participate, see the
Build Your Campus in 3D Competition site.
Some SketchUp team members have modeled the University of Colorado at Boulder as an example, and have created a
video tour. Or, travel to Boulder with Google Earth (make sure you have Google Earth 4, the latest version) and turn on the "Buildings --> Best of Google Warehouse" layer to see the 3D buildings for yourself.
If you don't have the software yet, you can download
Google Earth and
Google SketchUp for free.
