During the course of the day, we learned about a number of Google products and how we can apply them to an educational setting. Among the tools we learned about were:
Book Search,
Patent Search,
Scholar,
News,
Alerts,
Co-op and Custom Search Engine,
Earth,
Docs & Spreadsheets,
Blogger,
Page Creator, and
Google Groups.
Overheard comments included:
"Wow! All the food is free!"
"You can really search the full text of entire books!?!"
"Can I ride one of the electric scooters?"
"I am going to set up a Custom Search Engine tonight for a math lesson tomorrow."
"I had never even heard of Google Scholar."
"Can I have another pen?"
"My students will be amazed when I show them the layers in Google Earth."
"Check out the T-Rex sculpture!"
"The translator tool will be very helpful for my English Language Learners."
"Free Ben and Jerry’s!!!"

We had a wonderful experience -- knowledgeable and considerate instructors, delicious food from across the globe, a thorough tour of the state of the art corporate campus. Certainly a top prize goes to Google for having such a "green" environment and for treating their employees as though they were the most important part of their company—they are! And thanks for making our group feel so special!
