Google Latitude API Retiring

Just come to know about the retiring of Google Latitude and the API to access location information.
My app only fetches history from Google Latitude of the users that uses the app through Latitude API, just wanted to know, will the fetching service through the API will also be discontinued, i am working on this app as part of my final year project and if so then please share if someone know, new way of doing so if announced by Google
