The Linux version of Picasa is great and I would love to have an
updated version.
I take thousands of pictures for multiple organizations. Some
weekends I will take
1-2 thousand pictures and have to process them in a couple of days.
Picasa
allows me to rapidly process them, upload them, and distribute/share
them.
I really don't want to be stuck using Picasa on Vista to do this.

Please, a native Linux port or at least updated Linux port would be
most appreciated.

well, in my kubuntu 9.10 i can use win picasa version (3.5) via
wine ... and it works almost perfectly (the only problem is with
"places", when i check that tab, everything become freezed, and i have
to manually edit the file user.reg to be able to use picasa again).
i use picasa to manage my online album and every album on my lap (some
thousands pics) and it works really well.

me too i would like to have a native linux port, but at least via wine
i can use picasa on linux without problem.
cheers,
Alberto

I find that on my 64-bit Ubuntu Karmic machine, the unsupported Wine
version (Picasa Version 3.6.0 (Build 95.1800, 0) for Linux) lacks some
of the features I most appreciated on the supported Picasa Version
3.1.0 (70.8101, 0) for Linux, such as the ability to use CJK languages
in folders and captions. Moreover, fonts are often blurry, i e, at the
upper right of the Picasa window, and geotagging doesn't work (I don't
know if this be due to the fact that I'm located in Europe, not North
America). Still worse, not all of the photos in a given folder on my
harddisk are displayed in Picasa. However, the «People» («Faces»)
feature works fine. I really do hope that now that Chrome/Chromium is
up and running in Linux and Mac as well as Windows OS, the great
Picasa for Linux developers who previously worked on this feature can
return to it !...

Please provide a url for this "linux/wine" version. My wine will not
install the windoz version 3.5/3.6 and I have *not* seen anything past
3.1 packaged for linux.

If google team doesn't have the time to maintain a Linux version of Picasa, maybe it could be a great idea to open its code to the community ?

Cordially,

Patrick, the version of Picasa 3.6 I downloaded was the standard
version for Windows ; why the version name changes to «... for Linux»
*after* installation in Wine I cannot say. Note that the version of
Wine I'm running is «1.0.1-0ubuntu8», not the updated
«1.1.31-0ubuntu3». I'm far from certain that this is relevant, but
which Wine version are you running ?...

wine-1.1.34 i386 on openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 box

I have tried 1.1.28, 1.1.30 and two builds of 1.1.32 with the same result.

Follow the wiki steps (address you top-posted above) for installing and
massaging wine or first install the linux/wine version (3.0) and then the
3.6 windoz version.

somehow answers above questions leads to confusion. Might as well read
from right to left.
