Is there a way to geotag my pictures with picasa 3 and earth 5.1? In
Picasa, the option is in the menu but it is greyed out. There is no
button in the photo tray in picasa. Any ideas?

Short answer: no. An external app - i.e. the Java-based Geotag - does
the job for me.

yes geotag is a good tool

digikam has a geotag tool but not as handy (it is much improved in
digikam 1.0.0b6)

you can setup GE in the same wine environment of picasa

see here how to add apps in the picasa wine environment
