I feel that the support for Hindi is quite excellent.

But since Sanskrit is also written in same script, how about adding
that too ? For the most part, Sanskrit words work in Hindi mode, but
the last "a" sound is a problem.

For example, consider the meaning of "lotus". I need to type "kamal"
in Hindi mode and it is rendered "कमल" which is proper Hindi. OK. But
actually, in Sanskrit, the lotus is "kamala" (final 'a' sound is not
eaten off) but when I enter this, I get "कमला" which is not what I
want !

You guys at Google must be able to pull this off. Because, there are a
lot of ancient Indian scriptures in Sanskrit & digitizing them would
be a great idea.

Dear Satish,

You are extremely right. But unfortunately Devanagari & all other
Brahmi based Indic scripts were encoded in Unicode blindly basing upon
the Syllablic approach of ISCII.

Pl. see:
encodings.html>

where in the chart-1 of the proposal the encoding of Pure consonants
like क् was proposed in 2002. But unfortunately Unicode experts
rejected it, arguing some duplicacy.

Now क् is derived by typing क+हलन्त = 2 characters
But phonetically क् = क - (minus) अ vowel, it is also known as half-
ka, it is also written as क्‍

This form can be derived by using क + हलन्त + ZWJ i.e. 3 numbers of 2-
byte codes.

This is totally illogical or unscientific or complex.
Normally 1+1=2 or 2-1 = 1,

But for getting 1
1 = 2 + (-1) i.e. two plus (minus one)
is complex or unscientific procedure. This complex procedure we are
now bound to use in Indic Unicode.

For getting कमल by typing "kamala" you have to use BARAHA type of
keyboard layout, instead of Google transliteration.

Perhaps time will solve the problem.
