Hello,
I was very impressed with your recent support for Hebrew
Transliterations! I have a number of questions:
1. When will API support for Hebrew be added (maybe it's already
there, but the Transliteration API documentation page doesn't list
Hebrew as a supported language)?
2. When (or will ever?) will "Google Transliteration IME" be provided
for non-Windows platforms (Mac OS X, Linux) so that non-Windows users
can use the off-line transliteration utility?
3. How is it possible to determine what English characters correspond
to equivalent Hebrew characters? For example, I wanted to get the
Hebrew words "מה שלומך" so I typed "mah shlomchah" in the
transliteration textarea. This resulted in: "מה שלומכאה". So,
"שלומכאה" was incorrect since it should have been "שלומך". None of the
alternative words in the popup were correct either. I could have used
the unicode character inserter to insert the "ך" character in place of
the "כאה" characters (and for casual use, this would have been fine);
however, it would be much faster if I knew what the phonetic mappings
were. By trial and error, I discovered that I should have typed "mah
shlomcha" instead of "mah shlomchah". Could you please publish a
phonetic mapping somewhere so that users who intend to use the
transliteration functionality a lot can quickly learn what the
phonetic mappings are?
4. When will a transliteration bookmarklet be available for Hebrew?
5. When you're using the Hebrew transliteration, only consonants
appear. I see that you can enter vowels if you use the Unicode insert
feature; however, I didn't see how it was possible to get the base
transliteration function to show vowels. If you want both consonants
and vowels to appear, how to you enable that?
Thanks again for adding Hebrew transliteration support!
