Hello,

I have built a portal in Telugu on a Content Management System and
have used the Google Indic Transliterator tool occasionally to name
some menus etc.

Subsequently, my team members, used "Gautami" font to populate the
content of the website.

Windows 2000 users and Mac users are not able to view the website
because Indic Fonts are not natively supported in their operating
systems.

So I am giving them an option to install the font in their machines.
I am assuming that providing them the "Gautami" font and whatever font
Google Transliterator uses, will enable them to view the website.

Can the experts in the room suggest if the approach I am taking is
correct.
If so, could you tell which Telugu font is used by Google?

Thanks,
Amit

Hello Amit,

Since Google Indic Transliterator encodes characters in Unicode, an appropriate Unicode font with a browser that can render it would be sufficient to see Telugu text properly.

The "Gautami" font comes as default with Windows XP and above, and works fine in Windows 2000 and Mac.
Other Unicode Telugu fonts are Pothana and Vemana, which can be downloaded here:

The Mac version of Pothana is available here:

For more information related to configuring your system for Telugu, please refer to this article:

Kiran
