to Google Identity Toolkit

Hi Identity Toolkit Community,

As announced by Adam Dawes some weeks ago, on last May's Google I/O we released a new version of Google Identity Toolkit as part of the Firebase family of developer tools: Firebase Authentication. Moving forward, all new feature work for Identity Toolkit will be released as updates to Firebase Authentication.

With this upgrade, we brought many new features to the product. As a refresher, some of these are:

  • Decoupling of UI from logic on our client SDKs, so you can choose to build your app's UI with more flexibility.

  • Integrated email sending infrastructure so you do not need to set up and manage email sending infrastructure to help your users that have lost their password.

  • Users console for visual user management.

  • Better session management so, on iOS and Android, users will only have to login once, reducing friction.

  • Seamless integration with other Firebase features like the Firebase Realtime Database and Firebase Storage.

And many more exciting things are coming.

It is now possible to upgrade your Identity Toolkit apps to Firebase Authentication. We have released this migration guide to explain all the main differences with the new update, and also guided steps if you do decide to upgrade.

We encourage you to check it out, and please let us know if you have any comments or questions through any of the recommended Firebase support channels.

Thanks,

Firebase Auth team, formerly Google Identity Toolkit
