Has GFC got a future?

I’m displaying some GFC widgets on my website – it’s working ok and
some people have joined up and entered comments. However I’d like to
extend this – integrate the data with my own database, allow users to
login and be ‘social’ with each other etc.
I see I can do this using the GFC server side code. However now Google
plus is on the scene ( not to mention Open Social, Orkut oreven
Facebook.) I’m not sure if I’d be better of using that if/when the api
is developed more.
Any thoughts anyone?
