Why are Airports that have Free Wireless getting sponsored?

Why are Airports that have Free Wireless already getting sponsored for
free wireless for the holidays? I would think that it would be more
beneficial to offer free wireless at airports that require you to pay.

Yeah, good question. I was at PIT and there were signs on the tables
in the food court saying Google sponsored the free wifi as a holiday
gift, but PIT always has free wifi.

FLL also had free wifi before, and it just worked. Now, you have to
say that you agree to some terms and conditions (without being able to
see them) before you can do anything.

I think why they put "free" Wifi in places that already had free Wifi
was so that more people could have a chance to donate and get their
donations matched.

It's an advertising network; it doesn't much matter whether it was
formerly free or good or not. I'm interested to know what will happen
in Boise, where wi-fi was already free, but the former free sponsor
hasn't stated whether they'll pick it up after Jan 15 if Google
doesn't. I suspect Google will keep this up after Jan 15. More here:
