I love Google Finance...use it to monitor the market, track stocks,
etc. One improvement that would take it to the next level would be
allowing users to receive custom alerts when individual stocks reach
specific prices. Ideally, users could choose between email, SMS
messages, etc and set the price Google Finance should alert on.
Alternatively, perhaps a column could be added in the user's Portfolio
where buy/sell prices can be entered manually by the user. Could even
color code the stock symbol or add some other means of visually
letting the portfolio owner know the desired buy or sell price has
been reached.

Set up a Google Docs spreadsheet. Put a stock symbol in A1, put
GoogleFinance(+A1) in cell B1 for the real time price of NYSE/NASDQ
stocks. Then put a formula in C1 to calculate Buy/Sell//Hold, then
color the background of Buy green, Sell Red and Hold no background
color.

Most major brokerage firms have Price alerts. Fidelity is one of the
best.

As another possible option, check out www.ifttt.com. It works very
well as a transparent alerting tool for stocks or any number of other
events. The alert(s) can be delivered to any number of devices using
different media. Easy-peesy set-up.
