Hello,

I am trying to download historical stock prices that are split-
adjusted but do not take into account dividends or anything else, just
splits. It seems like Google Finance does that, but I'm not 100% sure
and I'm not seeing anything on the site to confirm that for me. Does
anyone know if this is the case with Google Finance, that they do in
fact take into account stock splits but do not factor dividends into
their historical prices?

Many thanks!

Jarek

Hi Jarek,

You are correct. Our historical prices download is split-adjusted, but
not dividend adjusted.

It would be really helpful if there were a link on the google finance pages to a definition of the historical prices you provide. Moreover, it would be great if you could provide an option of what to display. There are three useful ways to compute historical prices:

1. Raw historical price
2. Adjusted price, adjusting for both splits and dividends
3. Adjusted price, adjusting only for splits

You provide #3, Yahoo provides both #1 and #2, making Yahoo much more useful in my opinion. Why not give users the choice of what to see? Everyone seems to do this differently and documents it poorly. Google could shine by providing an option and being clear.

It would also be great if you provided historical dividends in a text file; again Yahoo does this.

Thanks.

Bob

Excellent summary of Google's options to improve options.
