It would seem that there are some issues with the Email Uploader for Mac at the moment.  I don't know anything about the background to this tool, but it would seem from the google code page that it was created by some passionate and skilled volunteers - presumably to meet a need they had at the time.

If that's the case, we can't reasonably expect those same people to maintain the tool, but I would hope that Google would officially support the tool and make the improvements required, to allow Mac users to move over to Google Apps.

Could anyone from Google, or a more knowledgeable member of the forum, comment on the amount of support that Google will give to this tool?

The email uploader for Mac has never been an application supported by Google.

I wrote it in spare time, and periodically update it (perhaps once per year.) But it's never been an official product.

As it is an open source application, other motivated developers with spare time are welcome to submit patches to the project.

Its incredible that Google made 37 billion last year and they do not support Greg with resources and money.

Greg, thank you so much for your work on the tool, it's much appreciated.

Simon, I'm equally stunned that Google don't support this tool & Greg.   It probably won't make a difference, but I wrote into the Google Apps sales team and asked them to provide some support for the tool. If anyone else is inclined to get in touch - http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/contact_sales.html

Unfortunately, the status of this project hasn't changed since my comment on this thread earlier this year.

Since this is an open source project, any Mac developer is welcome to investigate the changes in Mail.app's folder structure and submit a patch for this application. Otherwise, I do not expect have a chance to do that investigation this year.

Hi Greg,

thank you for your work, this tool is great.

however, it doesn't fulfill what i was looking for and maybe you or otherpeople in this group have an answer.

Im trying to migrate all my old mail from my old gmail to a new adress. i've already tried the official methods you can find on Google forums, like mail fetching in POP3. with this method it first seemed to work perfectly, i was beginning to receive all my all mails in my new inbox, but shortly all i got instead of new mails was notifications saying something like "invalid message size error". Which seems stupid because they were all inside the 25 Mb limits, and i cant see which are the concerned messages.

then i tried to import them locally on mail app (OSX 10.6.8) to at least have a local copy, and tried to re-migrate them online with your tool but got the error message "Uploading to gmail.com and googlemail.com accounts is not currently supported"

is there a way to go around those limitations ( is it possible that they are intentionally implemented by Google, for example to restrain users from accumulating data exceeding the free 15 gB limit ) ?

by typing this message, im realizing its probably not the right discussion, ill delete it if it disturbs people here.

but, if one of you sees a way around my problem, please give me a hint if possible !

thank you all and happy new year !

Paul

Greg,

The tool is really terrific, and we'd love a way to help get you some support and resources to get this to be "officially" supported.  What can we do as a community to let Google know that?  Is there a feedback form, or better yet, someone to email?  Let us know!

Marc
