Developers,

We recently updated Earth Engine’s authentication configuration in the Code Editor to request a different set of OAuth scopes.

While new users won’t notice any difference, existing users may be prompted to log in again to reconfirm Earth Engine's access to relevant Google services.

Here is what you need to know:

JavaScript Code Editor

The next time you visit the Code Editor, you will be prompted to sign in and re-verify your account permissions.

  • This is expected and safe.

  • As we roll out the changes over the next several weeks, you may find that you need to go through the re-authentication a couple times.

Recent Python Notebook Interruption (Resolved)

Between May 8th and May 11th, this authentication configuration update inadvertently disrupted the notebook authentication mode for Python client users.

This issue was fully resolved on May 11th. The standard notebook authentication flow is working normally again, and the fix requires no changes to your local environment.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we continue to improve the Earth Engine platform security and privacy.

Best regards,

The Earth Engine Team
