How to add and remove a polygon when the Earth API is a map type in Google Maps

Greetings,
How would I add and remove a polygon as a kml layer when the GE API
is running as a layer type in maps? The regular methods for adding/
removing a polygon in Maps don't do it in the GE API. All the
examples show how to do it when the GE API is loaded by itself rather
than as a map type in maps.

Sorry, I read it too quickly at first. Polygons aren't fully supported
in the Earth API. Only markers and polylines are.
