Hi all,

I'm proud to announce that we've officially distinguished one of your
fellow community developers, Fraser Chapman (also known as 'fraser' in
the forums), as our first Earth API Guru. As with other Google
developer forums, responses from API gurus can be considered very
reliable.

Over the past few months, Fraser has been both prolific and thorough
in responding to forum questions. He's also displayed an impressive
repertoire with the Earth API's functionality and documentation.
Overall, Fraser has done a phenomenal job and we're very glad to
recognize him for all of his contributions.

Please take a moment to welcome Fraser once again as our first Earth
API Guru!

Hey,

Shucks, thanks guys, it really is a genuine pleasure to help out in
such a great community.
I look forward to doing more of the same in the coming year.

Merry Christmas everyone, and thanks again.

Regards,

Fraser.

Nice one Fraser :)

It's greatly appreciated by those you have helped out that you spare
the time that you do.

So have a great festive season all your Gurus (be that here or in the
other GE forums), Roman and everybody else who chips in to assist us
all.

Cheers guys and girls.

Fraser,
Wow, congratulations! So nice to be talking to a REAL GURU! :-)

I think I joined the wrong group, as I am not a developer...just had a
question for you...we can ascertain our latitude and longitude easily
enough on Google Earth, but can you provide a USER-FRIENDLY way for us
to determine the altitude (elevation) at a specific address?

We live on "Summit Lane", at the top of a hill in Edmonds, WA and we
have gotten a lot more snow during this historic storm than our
daughter, in the downtown area, what we call "the bowl"...we just
wanted to know how high we were...we do know that the "South
Edmonds" (98026) area has an altitude of approx. 200 feet, but that is
not specific enough for our informational needs.

We tried to use "GPS Visualizer" to calculate elevation from our
coordinates, but we could not figure out how to convert the lat/long
using the "GPS Babel" tool...if you can figure that out, can you share
with us?

Can you help us and maybe add this as a feature to Google Earth?

Thanks so much,
Happy New Year!

Hi Dave and Pat,

The 'status bar' in the plug-in (and full application) will show the
elevation (elev) of the point directly under the mouse in feet above
sea level.

Using this I can see that:
The junction of Summit Lane and Bowdoin Way is around 447 ft above sea
level
The top end of Summit lane (towards Main St) is around 427 ft above
sea level

Another method would be to use the USGS National Map Viewer to get the
data:
http://nmviewogc.cr.usgs.gov/viewer.htm
I did a quick query for you - here is the data for roughly the mid-
point on Summit Lane:

Elevation: 445 Feet
Latitude: 47° 48' 24''
Longitude: -122° 20' 57''
U.S. National Grid (USNG) Coordinates: 10T ET 48739 95016 (NAD83)
Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Coordinates: 10 548739 5295016
Source: NED CONTIGUOUS U. S. 1/3W ARC SECOND ELEVATION DATA

Hope that helps.

F.

Hi there,

Can anyone help to give me a clue how to solve this problem:-

I am using IE7 and have installed Google Earth Plug-in Driving
Simulator.

When I start loading the page, I received following error massages:

1. google earth has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience.
Would you like to send an error report about this problem to google?

After pressing "yes" button, following msg came out

2. The error report has been seent. Thank you.

Then another msg appeared after a while
3. Google Earth loading failed!

Awaiting your advice
