"Fly" along a track

Hi,

We have integrated Google Earth plugin to our website, so people can
look at GPS tracks in 3D. But I find that the navigation is not easy,
especially in the mountains. I always go the wrong way and get lost.

We would like to implement a "helicopter-flight" feature: user just
have to hit a "Play" button and then the camera smoothly fly along the
track, presenting it from the beginning to the end and maybe from
different angles, so even the people who are complete novices in
Google Earth controls could enjoy the view. It would also nice to have
a pointer that moves on the track and present the current position of
the virtual "hiker" together with the time, distance, elevation and
other data.

Is it possible to implement this and how? Are there some examples?

http://replayroutes.com does something pretty close to what you're
describing - select any workout from the list, and then use the
controls in the bottom right of the ge panel to control the playback
(you can also use the standard compass control to adjust the view
point relative to the direction of the track).
