Hi *,

I just wondered if it would be a nice idea to host a project on Google
Code to create a game based on the Monster Milktruck example we all
love.

I see multiple players that can drive a Milktruck (or another vehicle:
we need some other nice vehicles there ;) ) and who are connected
through a backend server (well something where they can exchange their
geo-position, and other variables), so they can see each other.

One big issue here is collision detection. There are some nice 3D-
models of cities now, and it would be great if you would bump into
them and not just drive through through them, but this could be solved
by not allowing deviation from the roads overlay more than a certain
distance (see how the guys over at phatfusion do it with their
googleDrive http://www.phatfusion.net/googledrive/). I am just
spitballing here, there might be more elegant solutions. Or maybe some
googlers already thinking about it. Post some infos here, if you have
them!

That is the basis.

On top of that we could envision some kind of chase game, geo caching
game, ... I think the possibilities here are endless. Let's discuss
this!

Another major thing I want to ask the guys at Google is: Could we use
your code for the Monster Milktruck as a starting point? That would
really give this project a nice boost.

So what do you think about this? Probably there are already 2 sites
out there where I can login and play it ;) So let's throw together the
efforts and create GTA - Da Milk!

Cheers,
Pita.

Hi *,

it seems that some people are reading faster than I can type ;)

Just created a Google Code project for our endeavor that can be
accessed via http://code.google.com/p/damilk/

Because I could not think of something better (we can change that
later ;) ) I have chosen "DaMilk" as working name for that project.

The next step would be to wait for the guys at Google to make a
statement about the source code.Maybe there are some people out there
who have legal experience with reusing JavaScript code from other
sites. But whatever the opinion on this might be: I definitely don't
want to jeopardize this project by running into a quarrel with
Googlers, but hopefully receive some friendly support from developer
to developer!

Let's see where we are going ;)

Cheers,
Pita.

hi
i just made a paragliding simulation based on the milktruck code, you
can see and play at it from this page for instance :
- go to http://www.paraglidingearth.com/en-html/index.php?site=6176
(a very famous flying place in France)
- click the "Fly this site !!!" link under the grey/blue images on
the top right

i am dreaming of making it multiplayer !!!
i ll try to give a look at your google project to see how this can
done

please feel free to have a look at my code if you want some features
from it (speed indicator, look sideways, etc..)

cheers

Hi raf,

I already have seen your paragliding simulation. Very nice!

There is even more out there. Check the http://code.google.com/p/damilk/wiki/LinksHomePage
page.

The code that is currently in our repository is not very different
from the Monster MilkTruck code, so if you already know the code from
Google don't bother to take a look at our code. Since project setup I
was pretty busy and did not have much time.

But I would say that we definitely can share the back-end code when
there are some results! From the looks of your paragliding simulation
you will even have to share more data amongst the player than what I
wanted for our driving simulator. But it's good to have that in mind
to keep our framework open for other uses and not focus too much on
ground based games.

Next step for our project would be to share the position amongst
different users - one thing both simulators will need - let's see when
I (or the other GoogleCode members) have time for that :)

Cheers,
Pita
