Hi, I'm having difficulty getting icons to flash on / off. I need to
highlight certain points that depict places in danger/ in urgent need
of help and need them to stand out from other placemarks. Any ideas?
Is there a little html code that can be added somewhere in the KML to
get icons to flash on/off? I've tried adding an animated GIF image
for the icon, but it doesn't flash.

Thanks, and I'd really appreciate some help here.

Adam,
I don't have a sollution to your problem. I am posting this because I
don't want to see other flashing icon product out there :)
I highly discourage using flashing items on your maps.
I think your problem has to do with cartographic design. Take a look
at www.parkinfo.org (a beautifully designed and elegant looking map
using google maps api). Please note how the designer uses red as the
main color to highlight trails. This just make the trails stand out
(well assuming non-color-blind viewers) but not compete too much with
other elements such as campgrounds, etc.
I challenge you to design your map with icons/symbols that speak for
themselves.
Here are more great static examples of maps/posters that are not
flashy.
http://www.cartogis.org/ (click on the map itself will take you to
2006 gallery. Other years are available as well.)
Once you get your API running, do you mind posting it here for the
group to see?
Thanks and Good Luck!
