This is a great utility and fits several customer use cases, but until it gets some official support, how can enterprises adopt it?

This product was designed and built for a few targeted use cases, but it has its limits. It is not designed to solve all use cases related to Google Drive access.  

We will provide support for security and severe product defects. Releasing the code open-source can enable customers or partners who want to build off the existing framework we have developed to do so.

You are correct this tool and many others from Google are not covered under our Google Apps Core services support agreement. I understand that many customers will be unwilling to adopt such a tool without support. For customers that need support we believe our Google for Work partners are best positioned to step in and help provide assistance and support with the product code being publicly available.
