You're right, there was a Python script quite a few years ago that could send out a fake BidRequest to a bidder application and then show the ad from your response via a simple locally-hosted web application. You're also correct that it was deprecated; it had a lot of maintainability issues and
arguably didn't do it's job very well because it poorly simulated real bid requests--it would simply send whatever you specified, which might be quite different than a bid request sent by our exchange. The requester tool was used in the early days for bidders integrating with our exchange, but was deprecated shortly after we introduced a
testing mode that sends a lower volume of requests that are automatically filtered.
