Hello,
My team is the process of switching to google's openrtb in response to Google's decision to phase out google's rtb. I have one question regarding the price macro.

Google continues to support existing macros on the creative and in impression tracking URLs. These macros will be expanded within creatives and impression tracking URLs submitted on the OpenRTB protocol.

This implies that Google's OpenRTB protocol will support the macros designed for Google's RTB one of which is %%WINNING_PRICE%%. That is the macro we currently use.

If your bidder is configured to use the OpenRTB protocol, the creative included with your bid should use IAB's ${AUCTION_PRICE} macro.

So it is advised that we use AUCTION_PRICE.

So the question is: can we continue using WINNING_PRICE that will be supported by OpenRTB? Or should we act on the recommendation and use AUCTION_PRICE instead?

Hello,

In short, both WINNING_PRICE and AUCTION_PRICE are acceptable for your use-case. You may use either.

Generally, if equivalent Google and OpenRTB macros exist, we recommend adopting the OpenRTB macros. The reasoning for this is that it would allow your bidding applications to be better aligned with OpenRTB, and thus better able to integrate with other exchanges if desired. It's worth noting though that we have no plans to stop supporting equivalent Google macros, which will work even if placed in OpenRTB bid responses. There are also several Google macros you could optionally use that have no direct equivalent in OpenRTB. Whether to adopt purely OpenRTB macros, some mix of OpenRTB and Google macros, or purely Google macros is a design decision you will have to make for your bidding application.
