Hello Support,

As shown in the figure below, we found that the timeout rate in RTB breakout has reached 30%.

  1. Is this timeout rate considered normal ?

  2. Could this issue be related to the processing time on our DSP server, or is it potentially a network-related problem preventing AdX requests from reaching our server? (Currently, our all five endpoints are configured to point to a single server.)

Thank you,
Edison

Hello Edison,

I'll respond to your question in order:

1.) It's not unusual for the number of bid responses that time out to be non-zero, but it shouldn't make up a non-trivial portion of your total RTB bid responses. I'd say that 30% seems quite excessive.

2.) Ultimately this error results when we don't receive a bid response by the deadline described in BidRequest.tmax. Both of the reasons you stated are plausible–excessive processing time to build a response could push you over tmax, and likewise if the request itself is dropped because your infrastructure can't handle the load, you'll hit the deadline because you can't produce a response to a request you haven't received. I suppose another possibility is that you're choosing not to bid in certain instances, and rather than specifying a proper no-bid response, you just don't return a response at all.

All of these could be addressed, but you'll need to investigate what the actual cause is. For example, you may want to observe how this value changes with either less load or more bidding endpoints.

Thanks,
