I am being told by a vendor that binary files that are uploaded to Google Docs cannot be edited by users that have edit rights (only the owners can edit them).

For example Sally uploads an excel file as binary and shares it with Joe.  Sally can edit that file (using Excel with any of the tools that map Google Docs as local storage, including CloudConnect), but Joe cannot.

Does anyone know (Vic ???) if this is True?

You cannot edit files in the Google Docs UI.  File is defined here:

Hi Vic,

Obviously.

My Q pertains to products like Memeo, Gladinet, etc.

I don't know if you have used / tested these products or not.  But essentially these products map doc storage as a drive/folder for a user and give a listing of all the files and collections that a user has access to in a hierarchical directory format.

The user can double-click a file and it will be opened in Excel, Word, whatever.

These products are able to open the file fine, but are not able to save it back for some reason.

What I am trying to find out is if it is a bug in the product, or if it is a rights issue from Google (flat out, an editor is not allowed to save a file).

Please follow up with those specific products directly, but I'm unaware of any issues with their use of the API that would affect this.
