Hi, this new version of Google Desktop has a gadget engine which can
automatically open .gg files (these practically are the gadgets). So
all you have to do is double-click it.

Alternatively, you can add Limiter from the 'Add+' button from the top
the sidebar (the button appears when the mouse enters the sidebar).

P.S. You have to have GD 4 installed before adding Limiter.

I have GD installed with Google Pack but when i double click the file
it had no default application to run ... so configured it to execute
GoogleDesktop.exe but it doesnt work. I dont have the "Add+" button
either. And what can i do now?

hi,

most chances are that you don't have the latest version (4 Beta); also,
i'm not sure that Google Pack updates Google Desktop while it's in
Beta. So you need to make sure you have GD4, by manually installing the
program from www.desktop.google.com

Teo,

I have GD 4.2, but I don't have the Add+ feature either. do I have to
enable one of the panels or ActiveX controls to get it? I can't get .gg
file to open either.

Hi,

that's an internal version number (if you went to Options->About to get
it). If it starts with 4 it doesn't always mean that it is GD 4. If you
don't see an Add+ button when your mouse hovers over the sidebar then
you don't have the latest beta version. The easiest way to check if you
have it is to look at the panels(plugins): in GD4 they don't have
specific icons, just a drag area instead. You can see how GD4 looks
like at http://www.desktop.google.com/gettingstarted.html

Recommend that info be added to the main description for the plug-in.
Pretty poor form for it to mysteriously not work. Very limiting!

In the GDS that currently downloads with Google Pack the .gg files
don't work (as reported above)... therefore it is irratating to
download your cool looking gadget and not be able to install it. I
would rather of known this before downloading - that I need to wait for
GDS 4 to come out of beta - or whatever the case is.

Anyway I will wait, thanks for creating the plug in.

Well, i agree with you, but maybe their policy is not to install Beta
programs, because not all users would want Betas installed (just
because they're Beta :) - but maybe you could suggest this to the
Google Pack site (to be able to choose whether you want them would be a
nice feature)

But you can always instal GD4 Beta now, manually from the GD site, if
you want (it just for GD4 gadgets/plugins :), and i think the Google
Pack will tell you when it comes out of Beta.

WHY is this listed as a "Staff Pick" when it is impossible to install?

Talk about stupid!
