How to run as slurm user? Can't cancel jobs?

How can I run as slurm user, or what is the default password for the slurm user so I can su?

I have a working slurm cluster and can submit jobs, but can't cancel them,

eg running scontrol cancel <jobid> returns: slurm_update error: Invalid user id

Or if I need specific IAM permissions or other permissions in tfvars what am I missing?
