Hi there,

I've been trying to set up AppEngine with Endpoints together without success.

Basically what I'm doing so far is following this doc, including with the example from github, and what I get after when I run "gcloud app deploy" is the message below.

Updating service [default] (this may take several minutes)...failed.
ERROR: (gcloud.beta.app.deploy) Error Response: [4] Your deployment has failed to become healthy in the allotted time and therefore was rolled back. If you believe this was an error, try adjusting the 'app_start_timeout_sec' setting in the 'readiness_check' section.

I've tried to increase readness_check, use legacy healthy check and nothing has worked.

Am I missing something? Is there anything going wrong with this integration?

Thanks,

Hi -- sorry for your troubles.

Can you tell me what language and App Engine runtime you're using?

I'm using Node and App Engine Flexible.

Let me know if that does not answer your question or if you need any other info.

I just want to post that we are also seeing the same error while deploying a Java application to App Engine Flex. The only way we got it to deploy is to remove the "endpoints_api_service" configuration from our app.yaml file.

Looping in +wlu and +yonggangl from endpoints.

Wencheng / Oliver - Is there anything we could help from endpoints side here?

We were finally able to get our deployments to work with Cloud Endpoints. In our case the "Service Management API" was not enabled for our project. Is it documented somewhere that this API is required for Cloud Endpoints?

Hi Derek,

`gcloud endpoints services deploy` should automatically enable the Service Management API (implicit when enabling endpoints.googleapis.com) the first time you deploy an Endpoints service.

Did you manually disable the Service Management API at some point? That will definitely cripple the Endpoints functionality.

https://console.cloud.google.com/home/activity (filter settings: "Activity types = Configuration", "Resource type = Audited resource") should show you if you enabled/disabled that API at some point.

We'll look into documentation improvements as well. Did you look at this troubleshooting page when investigating?

Hey Andrew,

When we were setting up this project we used Hashicorp's Terraform to set up all the services we needed including our Cloud Endpoints configurations. I'm only guessing, but somehow when Terraform deployed the Cloud Endpoints it didn't enable the Service Management API but allowed the configurations to be deployed anyways. I'm only basing this guess on the fact that I only see the activity log where I enabled this API but nothing about disabling it, so I'm assuming it was just never enabled in the first place.
