My understanding is that a Cloud Shell instance terminates after an hour of inactivity - which is fair enough given it's essentially a free VM. However, for me it regularly terminates/disconnects after just a few minutes - while I'm using it. That is obviously very frustrating when you're e.g. opening tunnels to a Jupyter notebook from it. I'd really like to know whether there is anything I can do to stop this from happening as otherwise I can't see this as being the go-to solution for my less bash-savvy colleagues. BTW I'm nowhere near reaching the monthly usage limits.

Hello Chistoph,

I understand that your Cloud Shell Virtual machine terminates by itself within one hour. This

must be frustrating to have your work interrupted. I believe this is not supposed to happen but in

my experience, the Shell does disconnect after a while if there is no activity. I did search for

common issues but could not find any at this moment but it does not mean that an issue does

not exist.

I would need information from you to isolate the cause and to start an investigation. We need to

allow the Cloud Shell Specialists to start looking for issues. To determine what zone is affected,

can you provide the output of the command.

curl metadata/computeMetadata/v1/instance/zone
