I'm having trouble re-installing google-gcloud-sdk on macOS.

I had an installation that was functional, but then it started responding to some (but not all) commands with a stack trace and httplib.BadStatusLine: '' as an error. Two of the commands that consistently returned errors were gcloud compute ssh and gcloud container clusters get-credentials. gcloud components update didn't resolve the problem and I thought my best course of action was to start from scratch with a new installation.

In order to uninstall gcloud, I removed the folder that was listed as the Installation Root field in the output for gcloud info. I also removed any relevant statements added to .bash_profile or .bashrc.

I then followed the instructions for the Mac OS X Interactive Installer, but after it completed the "Creating backup and activating new installation" step, it prints "Performing post processing steps...failed." followed by a stack trace and httplib.BadStatusLine: '' as an error. The output from gcloud info after that is ERROR: gcloud crashed (BadStatusLine): ''. Executing gcloud feedback gives the same response.

I then followed the instructions for installing the latest versioned archive for Mac OS X (x86_64), and install.sh executes without reporting an error.  However, gcloud init results in the following:

matt@iMac:~$ gcloud init
Welcome! This command will take you through the configuration of gcloud.

Settings from your current configuration [default] are:
Your active configuration is: [default]

ERROR
: gcloud crashed (BadStatusLine): ''

If you would like to report this issue, please run the following command:
  gcloud feedback

Executing gcloud info and gcloud feedback after that gives the same ERROR: gcloud crashed (BadStatusLine): '' response.

I'm a little unsure what my next steps troubleshooting this should be ... and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for reading!

Do you happen to be connecting to the internet from behind a proxy?

Thank you for your response - and apologies for the delay in my response!

No, I am not connecting to the internet from behind a proxy. Also, I have a laptop on this same network running El Capitan that doesn't have this issue.

It feels like there are some corrupted files from an old install somewhere on my system ... but I'm not sure where else to look. 😕
