Activation steps failed for services [compute.googleapis.com]

Hi all,

Experimenting with Google Cloud, but having trouble enabling the Compute Engine API. \

- Using the web interface I get a "Activation steps failed for services [compute.googleapis.com]" error

- Using the SDK I get a message that the service compute.googleapis.com aren't enabled on my project, would I like to enable them...and when I say 'y' I get a message like (gcloud.compute.instances.list) The operation with ID (some long id) resulted in a failure.

Has anybody experienced similar?

Hello Daniel, 

This may happen when processes are still active while the API is being disabled. I have seen it happening when some customers disable the API, and then try to re-enable it again. Have you tried to disable the API lately before enabling it again ?
