Hosting a Multi-tenant, multi-site on Google Cloud Platform, is this possible? Which engine works best - GAE, GCE or Container?

Hi all,

I am a beginner to both Google Cloud Platform and developing websites. I currently run a small events business which hosts events for local musicians/artists, to expand my business I asked a website developer to help me update my website to create an online community for the artists. He started enthusiastically but over a period of time starting to correspond less and less until it eventually stopped. I found out later that I had been "scope-creeping" him (as I did not have the full view of what my project was) hence why he stopped responding. Cut a long story short . . . I decided to plan, build and promote my own website.

For the past few months, I have been self-teaching how to create a multi-site with a multi-tenancy capability and whilst backup my website onto Drive I came (stumbled) across Google Cloud Platform.

I am intrigued to know the full capability (if that's possible!) of what GCP offers and how it can help me achieve my business objectives. Any help with this topic would be greatly appreciated ;0)

Also, a gentle reminder - I am a complete novice to web developing so please go easy on me with the techie slang, if possible use analogies to emphasise advice.

Many thanks
Oz

Hey, Oz. GCP is a great platform for building and hosting the kind of web sites you're talking about, but it's tools and technologies are aimed at experienced software engineers (and multi-tenancy is hard for the pros). May I recommend something like Squarespace or Wix or Wordpress? Those are aimed at beginners looking to build websites (and even pros that don't want the hassle of building something from scratch).

Or, if you'd like to target GCP, may I recommend our partner network: https://cloud.google.com/partners/ ? They'll be able to turn your requirements into working websites, no assembly required (although, of course, it's not free).

Hey Chris,

thanks for taking the time to respond to my query, even though I am new to the web development; I have this burning desire to learn all I possibly can about it. I find it fascinating to be able to create something that others will benefit from but the biggest task is completing it myself - which also, brings the best satisfaction!

I am currently using WordPress for the website, however, after thoroughly researching GCP and how it can benefit my project, I don't mind getting my hands dirty and learning something new in the process. I have recently taken an intensive crash course on building WordPress multisites as well as creating PaaS', (now I'm using techie jargon!) so I know a bit more than the average Joe but not certified or anything.

I have since found out a lot more about the GCP and which services will best suit my company needs. However, i will take on board your suggestions and see what happens.
