Requesting Example for U.S. Presidential Election Results via Election API

Hello,

I am reaching out because, as part of a protocol our team is developing, we would like to use the Google Civic API to obtain the result of the U.S. presidential election on November 5, 2024.

At the moment, we are using a request from the Representatives API to check who is in the White House.

Like this:
GET https://civicinfo.googleapis.com/civicinfo/v2/representatives?address=1600+Pennsylvania+Ave+NW,+Washington,+DC+20500&key=API_Key

However, we are not certain that this request will give us the results on the same day.

Could you provide us with an example of a request using the "Election API" that would allow us to get the result of the U.S. election on November 5, 2024?

Hello,

The Civic information API does not return election results. The Representatives API only returns the current set of representatives for a given address or division.

Thanks for your feedback.

However, I would like to know, once the U.S. presidential election is over and the results are validated, how long it will take for the representative API to indicate the new “official” in the White House—currently Joe Biden. 

This would be one way of using the API to determine the election result.

[Google Civic Information API]

The Representatives API will have new officeholder information for federal, statewide, and state legislative offices updated by the end of March 2025. For reference, for the 2020 general election new officeholders, federal level updates were reflected on 1/11/2021, state level officeholder updates 1/29/2021, and local officeholder updates by 2/29/2021.

Note that the Representatives API will be deprecated in Apr 2025.
