Hello,

I'm trying to debug a feature to open a link in a new tab and I need debugging from the beginning. So I activated Auto-open DevTools for popups in the Dev-Tools Settings, restarted Chrome (and PC) opened a new Tab -> nothing. Opened a new Window-> nothing. unchecked/rechecked the option, restarted again -> same problem. No dev-tools open on open a new tab/window. I tried it with open dev console and closed -> nothing.

I've added the flag "--auto-open-devtools-for-tabs" in chrome start options, this is working but this is not a comfortable solution (as the dev tools are opened every time I start chrome and not only when I start the dev-tools session on my own).

Did I miss anything? Or is this feature just broken?

Chrome is latest version 54.0.2840.71
I also tried Chromium latest build and Canary -> same problem.

How can i use this function?
Thanks for help
Regards Bene

Opening a new tab manually (by using the new tab button or the context menu) is not a "popup". A "popup" is only a window/tab that is opened by window.open (or maybe target=_blank). Not arbitrary new tabs or windows.
The flag is meant for the latter.
